English version here

Lørdag 9. august avsluttet Todd Terje Øyafestivalen i Oslo.

ENGLISH:

Todd Terje (Terje Olsen) headlined Norway’s most important music festival, Øya festival, August 9th. The 33 year old has been one of the most important DJs and electronic musicians in Oslo for a decade, and has defined the Oslo disco-scene, where artists like Lindstrøm and Prince Thomas also belong.

His first album, It’s album time, was released this spring. The reception from fans and critics was ecstatic, and the expectations  for this headlining gig has been huge. Todd Terje is one of Norway’s most important music exports over the last years, and songs like “Inspector Norse” have gathered international attention.

You can watch the entire performance above.

NRK P3’s reviewer Kim Klev gave the concert 5 out of 6 points, and wrote this:

“Not unlike his own songs – which often feature several lovely accord progression – Terje Olsens full-band live performance appears uncomplicated”.

The live band featured Olaf Olsen (drums), Martin Windstad (percussion), Lars Horntvedt (guitar, bass, vibraphone, saxophone, flute), Ole-Henrik Moe (strings) and Kari Rønnekleiv (strings).

Bryan Ferry also appears on stage, to add vocals to the collaboration “Johnny and Mary”.

(I kommentarfeltet her: http://p3.no/musikk/p3-viser-oya-konserter/ )

unbelievably boring concert..a load of session musicians, a guy twiddling some knobs, put together they made elevator music..in fact, the entire line up on saturday (with one or two honourable exceptions) was very humdrum, the crowd was also completely joyless…

    • Hauglinho

      unbelieveably stupid comment

    • Nemanja

I think that you dont even know what are you doing here …

  • sj

well, I think that headlining slot of todd terje´s was symptomatic of festivals in Norway. Festivals historically have been moments of unbounded release, where people feel disinhibited from the control of everyday life. From the Bacchanalian carnival of classical rome, to medieval central european city festivals, they were moments where people could act in a way that was completely different to how they did normally. If you go to festivals outside of Norway, this is often the case, people dress up, assume alternate identities, act ecstatically, lead by those on stage (the modern rock star/d.j etc assuming the role of the Bacchus/Pan etc.). Norway, of course, is a country with deep Lutheran and puritanical roots where irrationality and a loosening of quotidian norms is frowned upon. Acts like Todd Tergje who are cerebral, inexpressive and slaves to the click track are in keeping with this. Watching 15000 people standing still watching a man who was doing his best not to engage with them while playing soulless ironic music was a little bit sad. (stupid enough for you hauglinho?)

Your thought is very eloquently stated, but blaming Todd Terje is a load of bull crap. It sounds a lot like a “you” problem. I’d be losing my mind to this, and will be next weekend here in Los Angeles at FYF!!! Can’t wait for Terje!!

    • cam

Eloquently stated, though I couldn’t disagree more about the performance. Can’t wait to be moving my feet and losing my mind to Terje next weekend here in Los Angeles! Seeing that he has this full, live band set up makes me even more exited!!

    • Kai Schwind

If you’re looking for the Bacchanalian spirit I recommend attending the carnival in Germany :) Useless to debate musical taste, but you completely misunderstood the concept. Kind of like going to a Ramstein concert and complaining that “there was too little jazz”. And, I love the irony in his electronica. There is enough David Guetta in the world…

    • sj

Opps sounds like a basic bitch, clearly just doesn’t like Todd Terje and is trying to hide it with some pseudo-intellectualism. Don’t be so boring.

      • sj

        were you at the concert?

    • Hauglinho

I’m not going to a festival with artists i don’t enjoy to complain about how many artists i don’t enjoy, or how terrible their music is. I’m going to festivals were i want to see an artist i like, surrounded by other people with the same taste. I’m extremely happy todd is a gem and not a commercial product who has 200 shows/year with the same performance each and every show. Obviously you don’t like todd terje’s music and therefor you can’t rate his concert nor his performance in a neutral view.

  • http://legaltrek.com Alex

Just wow. This is one of the best electronic music concerts ever! I need to see this LIVE! :)

those comments are fair enough. It is a chicken and egg situation, the crowd and the performer. If the crowd is not up for it there is little the performer can do, and vice versa. I find iwith terje´s music it is a little too ´knowing´….it´s like music played with a smirk. (and no, I am definitely not a guetta fan!)…the most joyful performances I´ve ever seen have been LCD soundsystem, The Roots, !!! (chk chk chk ) where performers and crowd came together to make a joyful melee…The combination of Terje and a Norwegian crowd, who are renowned for being passive and undemonstrative, made for an evening without any sense atmosphere….then again it was in a park in the open air…in a smaller indoor venue with a crowd who were really up for it I ´m sure it would be a different experience…have fun in L.A!

    • Gard Krogdal

Ok you´ve spent 5 posts now trying to convince everyone about how boring you think this show was. You know what: most people disagree with you. Including those at the festival site. Now go on with your life.

      • sj

Touchy…….its okay to have different opinions btw ….ad hominem arguments and aggressive replies are weird. I didnt see much evidence of people having an amazing time at that concert….maybe watching a bald dude playing congas for 90 minutes isnt as compelling as you might think

        • dendrobates

how about this – don’t watch the video and just listen. it’s great. if you don’t like what you hear, fine, but buzz off and stop trolling.

    • Christiane Grelland

Will you ever stop nagging about how boring you thought this was? I was there and can most certainly confirm that the audience loved it! let me translate what the audience screamed after he was done; “more more more!”

  • Passerine

Whoa….. just….. whoa. No words coming from my mouth… jaw hanging on the flooooooor. Unfreakingbelievable. Get thee to Australia, STAT! x

I’m really wondering if everybody (not to pick on anyone personally) is watching the same concert as I am at the moment. What’s going on here is pure genius. I love the live elements in this set. I’m seeing a crowd which is absolutely involved in this set. And no, they aren’t fist pumping. But think that only speaks in the crowd’s favour.
